Kitchen Consigliere Review!!!
I know this is a mob site, however, I was in New Jersey yesterday heading towards Philadelphia, and I decided to stop in and eat at Kitchen Consigliere run by Angelo Lutz. I have to say, I didn't have any preconceived notions heading in other than to say, anyone I know whose eaten anything Angelo has prepared had said he was a gifted cook.
I didn't have a reservation, which could have been a problem. However the friendly staff was able to fit me and my friend Elio in, and we sat down. I was really impressed with the design of the restaurant. Famous photos of gangsters and actors adored the walls with a large mural of the whose who of gangsters was on the rear wall near the restrooms with Big Ang in the middle. A Bronx Tale played on a television near the bar where Angelo was stationed taking care of business. The ambiance was jazzy, dim lit and vintage.
The bathroom doors really cracked me up. It was the outline of a dead body, one male, one female. I have to say Angelo really decked out the place with some really cool stuff. I would imagine if I owned a restaurant I would do the exact same thing. He obviously had a fantastic idea about the decor and it really was cool on every level. I've eaten at a lot of places, but the atmosphere was fantastic and the wait staff was incredible. If you ever wanted to dine in an upscale place for a reasonable cost, believe me Kitchen Consigliere is the place to visit.
I ordered veal marsala, which was the best veal marsala I have ever eaten in my life, and believe me that's saying something. Generous portions, a large wine list, and a menu which consisted of many of t
he things I ate as a child. It truly reminded me of being home with Ma in the kitchen. It was so good I forced Elio to eat some of my veal, just so he could experience it. His eyes said it all. It was fantastic.
Our waitress was fantastic, catering to our every need ensuring we were happy, and was attentive in her approach. Some restaurants want you in and out, but not at Kitchen Consigliere. Your treated like family. I was able to talk to Angelo for a few minutes, we have met prior, and he was very gracious and kind. I ended up ordering a cannoli for dessert and believe me, I'd drive there just for that. It was that fantastic.
Before we left Angelo made sure we didn't leave empty handed, and gave us a few hats, which was unexpected and appreciated. All in all I had a fantastic experience. In New York it's hard to find
mom and pop tasting restaurants without getting cut up at the register. Either the food is okay and insanely priced, or it's awful and cheap. I have been looking for my home away from home restaurant wise and I believe I have found it finally. I never thought anyplace in Jersey could steal me away from some of my haunts back in Providence, Rhode Island, but holy crap...Kitchen Consigliere stole me completely.
In final, if you are a mob genre fan, or want excellent service and food, Kitchen Consigliere is a must visit on your list. Add it to your bucket list of things to do. If your heading to Philly from the South, or Northeast or New York, Collingswood is not out of your way at all. It is well worth the experience. If you decide to go, please call and make a reservation as the restaurant is incredibly busy and I don't want you to miss the opportunity. Yes, it is that good. Don't take my word for it, get up and head over, as soon as possible.
Please Visit Angelo say hello, tell him Jeff from MTR sent you.
